Join the Raíces Cultural Center to learn the foundations of Afro-Cuban dance, a Caribbean traditional art form. Open to all, these classes will introduce the rudiments of Bomba dance and explore the cultural significance and history of the genre.
The class is intended for adults and for families with children 14 and up (guardian must remain present at all times). Registration
is limited to 12 participants per session, please sign up early!
During the series, students will:
– Explore the history and cultural significance of Afro-Cuban dance.
– Learn how to recognize and identify a variety of Afro-Cuban rhythms including Güiro, Rumba and Comparsa.
– Learn how to execute the basic movements that are danced with each of these rhythms.
– Learn the use of Call and Response (Antiphony) in song to complement the movement and rhythms.

Street parking in Highland Park is free and umlimited aside from Raritan Avenue.
There is a public parking lot about half a block away from the site, at the Highland Park Native Plant Preserve.
