The Rutgers Geology Museum was built in 1872 and originally named Geology Hall. It was founded by State Geologist George H. Cook. This stone building was designed by New Brunswick-born architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh (1847-1918). The structure incorporates both Gothic and classical elements. The museum contains Native American artifacts, minerals, and fossils. You can even find fossilized tracks from the Grallator dinosaur species. The Geology Museum includes 2400 specimens of fluorescent minerals that were donated in 1940 by George Rowe, a mine captain of the New Jersey Zinc Company. In 1968, Rutgers opened the museum up to the public.
